Who We Are and How We Help

Our Mission Statement

CCHF All About Kids exists to give disadvantaged children a range of residential activity and respite breaks. We improve the quality of children's lives and help them recognise their potential  in a safe and happy environment.

The Children’s Country Holidays Fund was established in 1884 by the Rev Samuel Barnett and his wife Henrietta.  Originally called “The Country Holidays Fund to Provide Fresh Air for Ailing London Children” the charity’s aim was to take children from London’s slums away to the country or seaside for holidays in the fresh air and country surroundings. Sadly 125 years later, we are still needed to help children living in poverty. We do this by providing a range of residential activity and respite breaks that allow children to escape the traumas of their everyday life and simply become children again. In our 125th Anniversary year, 2009 we changed our name to CCHF All About Kids.

Children come to us from any number of backgrounds

  • Severe poverty
  • Domestic violence
  • Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Physical, mental and sexual abuse
  • Dangerous environments and neighbourhoods
  • School exclusion
  • Social isolation
  • Victims and perpetrators of bullying
  • Low self-esteem

How We Help Them

  • We show the children that there is a world outside of the world they live in
  • They go walking in the beautiful countryside of the South Downs
  • They swim in the sea and build sandcastles on the beach
  • They feed farm animals and go horse riding
  • They become more positive about their own capabilities, their self-worth and their future
  • They learn about the benefits of a healthy diet, exercise and table manners
  • They can develop new social skills by interacting with others
  • They play, learn and are cared for in safe and encouraging environments
  • They spend quality time with adults who provide positive role models
  • They grow in confidence by challenging themselves & trying new activities
  • They learn to be more independent and self sufficient
  • They receive peer support by mixing and talking with other children with similar experiences
  • They meet and make new friends, who they continue to have contact with through CCHF All About Kids breaks and outings
